What we do.

Active Life OT is a community-based occupational therapy service, working with clients in their homes across the Central Coast of New South Wales.

We offer a friendly, professional service to adults with physical disabilities. We have considerable experience and knowledge in the assessment and prescription of Assistive Technology, daily living equipment and home modifications to not only improve people’s safety and independence, but reduce risk of injury when carrying out their normal activities.

We get to know our clients and their routines well, so we can always find the best way to resolve challenges faced when completing everyday activities. By suggesting the best equipment and most effective environmental modifications within our clients' homes, we can successfully create a comfortable living space that provides the level of independence they desire.

Who we are.

We're a growing practice based on the Central Coast of New South Wales. We work with our clients in their home, serving all local communities in our region.

Our mobile team is led by Becky McCann, a qualified Occupational Therapist with more than 25 years of proven, practical experience in providing compliant solutions for disabled adults seeking independence. Becky offers essential industry skills spanning both the assessment and prescription of Assistive Technology and daily living equipment, to improving people’s independence when carrying out their normal daily routine with confidence.

Becky has attained the competencies set out by the National Disability Insurance Scheme for providing assessment for Complex Home Modifications for NDIS participants. She offers her clients considerable knowledge and practical skill in the field of home modifications, providing tailored assessment, guidance and advice on the best modifications for an individual’s unique situation. This ranges from installing simple handrails, to more complex bathroom adaptations, stair-lifts or alterations to property access for wheelchair users.

Occupational Therapy

Our Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions will start with a functional assessment to identify the barriers that prevent our clients from fully participating in their everyday lives. We can then assist our clients with achieving their goals and aspirations in a safe and meaningful way.

Each assessment is different and is tailored to individual needs of the referral and the client. For NDIS participants this may mean that a focused, structured assessment and report is required, to assist NDIA with a decision about funding supports, such as AT and Home Modifications. We will advise you from the start of the assessment what this process is likely to involve. We have developed excellent working relationships with a range of other service providers, equipment suppliers, builders and contractors on the Central Coast, and strive to provide an outstanding service for clients who need OT.

Assistive Technology

Assistive Technology (AT) includes a huge range of equipment, mobility aids, devices, gadgets and apps that support a client to carry out their day to day activities at home, at work, and during leisure or recreation. Some AT is easily available from local mobility shops and suppliers, while some requires careful selection, assessment and trial.

We can advise and support clients to ensure they are getting what they need for a safe and effective outcome. AT can be used to support a range of different conditions whether the impact is on physical, sensory, cognitive, psych-social or emotional skills.

Home Modifications

Home Modifications are changes to the structure, layout or fittings of a person’s home so they can more easily and safely move around to access frequently used areas and facilities. Home Modifications can mean simple or ‘Minor’ work, such as having a grab rail fitted next to the toilet. Alternatively they can be ‘Complex’, such as a bathroom adaptation or wheelchair ramp, requiring detailed layout design, consultations with builders and other tradespeople, and sometimes Council permission. Active Life OT can assist you with any aspect of the process for Home Modifications – processes can vary dramatically depending on who the funding body is.
